Abhi Toh Main 'Jawaan Hoon'

'Wafaa' is the name of Rajesh Khanna's new movie. Disgraceful is an understatement. I just saw the trailer of this movie and I was shocked beyond words. Sure you do come across such movies while browsing the channels but the shock was to see that the main lead was none other than yester year superstar Rajesh Khanna, fondly called Kaka. I mean could he have been that desparate? How could he stake his reputation and so many years of hard work in this way? I can imagine all his other colleages laughing at his attemp at a come back. Man this is bad. Of all the actors, I didn't expect Rajesh Khanna to have accepted to act in such a low class movie. Is this the same actor who gave us classics like Anand, Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem and Bawarchi? Sure girls would die for him then, but not now - in 2008. I hope something like this doesn't happen again. But the damage has already been done. The only reason this movie may be spoken about in the news now would be because of the old hero trying to do an Emraan Hashmi.

Aye mere pyare watan...

Song: Aye mere pyare watan…
Movie: Kabuliwala (1956)
Singer: Manna Dey
Music: Saleel Choudhri
Lyrics: Gulzar

Aye mere pyare watan
Aye mere bichde chaman
Tujh pe dil kurbaa
Tu hi meri aarzoo, tu hi meri aabroo
Tu hi meri jaan
Aye mere…

Tere daaman se jo aaye un hawao ko salaam -2
Choomlu main us zuba ko jispe aaye tera naam
Sabse pyari ter subah sabse rangeen teri shaam
Tujhpe dil kurbaa. Tu hi meri…meri jaan.

Maa ka dil ban kar kabhi seene se lagjata hai tu -2
Aur kabhi nanhi si beti banke yaad aati hai tu
Jitna yaad aata hai mujhko, Utna tadpata hai tu
Tujhpe dil kurbaa. Tu hi meri…meri jaan.

Chodkar teri zamee ko door aa pohunche hai hum -2
Phir phi hai ye hi tamanna teri ki kasam
Hum jaha paida hue us jagah hi nikle dum
Tujhpe dil kurbaa. Tu hi meri…meri jaan.
Aye mere….

Pal pal dil ke paas tum rehti ho -2
Jeewan meeti pyaas ye kehti ho
Pal pal dil ke paas tum rehti ho

Har shaam aankho par tera aanchal lehraye
Har raath yaado ki karvat le aaye
Main saans leta h uteri khushboo aati hai
Ek mehka mehka sa paigaam aati hai
Mere dil ki dhadkan bhi tere geet gaate hai.
Pal pal dil ke paas tum rehti ho

Kal tujhko dekha tha maine apne aangan me
Jaise kehrahi thi tum mujhe baandhlo bandhan me
Ye kaisa bandhan hai, ye kaisa sapna hai
Begane hokar bhi kyon lagte apne hai
Main soch me rehta hu darr darr ke kehta hu
Pal pal dil ke paas tum rehti ho

Tum sochogi kyon itna main tumse pyar karu
Tum samjhogi deewana main bhi ekraar karu
Deewano ki ye baate, deewane jaan the hai
Jalne me kya maza hai parwane jaan the hai
Tu yu hi jalate rehna aa aa kar khwabo me
Pal pal dil ke paas tum rehti ho
Jeewan meeti pyaas ye kehti ho
Pal pal dil ke paas tum rehti ho

Mana janab ne pukara nahi kya mera saath bhi gawara nahi

Mana janab ne pukara nahi.

Toota foota dil ye humara jaisa bhi ho ab hai tumhara -2
Idhar dekhiye nazar phenkiye
Dillagi naa dillagi naa keejiye sahab
Mana …..tumhara nahi.

Shukhriya toh shukhriya toh keejiye sahab

Dooba dooba rehta hu...

Song: Dooba dooba…
Album: Boondein (1998)
Band: Silk Route

Dooba dooba rehta hu aankho me tere
Deewana ban gaya hu main chahat me tere
Dooba……………chahat me tere
Ab din guzarte nahi, rate katthi nahi
Bus tasveer se baath banti nahi oh aaaja naa jaa bewafa.

Koi jane naa pehchane naa, ye hua kaise
Tum aa gaye khwabo me ayese
Koi…..ayese.
Bewafa suno bewafa, bewafa naa jaa
Duba…

Tum jo mil gaye diye jal gaye, mere khwabo me
Jano tum mere hum safar
Bewafa suno bewafa, bewafa naa jaa
Duba…

The melody of this song and the under water picturisation prooves that there are people out there capable of creating magic.
This album went on to win the Channel V awards for best debut and best song

Choudvi Ka Chand

Song: Choudvi ka chand ho…
Movie: Chodhvi Ka Chand (1960)
Singer: Mohammad Rafi
Music: Ravi
Lyrics : Shakeel Badayuni
Picturised on: Guru Dutt & Waheeda Rehman

Rafi:
Choudvi ka chaand ho, ya aftaab ho
Jo bhi ho tum khuda ki kasam lajawab ho
Choudvi ka… lajawab ho
Choudvi ka chaand ho, ya aftaab ho

Zulfe hai jaise kaandho pe badal jhuke hue
Aankhe hai jaise mehke khayale bhare hue
Masti hai jisme pyaar kit um who sharab ho
Choudvi ka chaand ho, ya aftaab ho

Chehra hai jaise jheel me hasta hua kamal
Ya zindagi ke saaz pe chedi hui gazal
Jaane bahar tum kisi shayar ka khwab ho
Choudvi ka chaand ho, ya aftaab ho

Honto pe khelti hai tappassum ki bijliya
Sajte humare raaho me karti hai kekasha
Duniya-e-husn ishq ka tum hi shabab ho
Choudvi ka… lajawab ho
Choudvi ka chaand ho, ya aftaab ho

Has Waheeda Rehman ever looked more beautiful??? Well, actually she has! But the way Guru Dutt sings to her... that makes her seem more gorgeous. The whole movie is in black & white. But this song was shot in colour. Its pure poetry in motion. There are no words to praise this song. Everything from the actors to the sets, the lyrics to the music, the mood of the song to the sets... was perfect.
This song won 3 Filmfare awards too. Mohammad Rafi and Shakeel Badayuni won the best male singer and the best lyricist respectively. And to think that Guru Dutt initially was not too happy with Mohammad Rafi singing the song!!! BUt now can you imagine anyone else singing it better? I doubt it. The lyrics really take the cake though. The way Guru Dutt describes Waheida's beauty in a such an aesthetic way... Wow! Which woman wouldn't fall for that one? All in all its a great package and a reminder of why many prefer older songs.
